That is totally not true. The old 35mm is not good bokeh wise, the new one does quite a good job.

The new glass and their drive for edge to edge sharpness seems to have affected bokeh.

That seems to be not true either. This lens, at closer focus, seems to have smoother bokeh than the f1.2. At more distant focus, it seems to break down a bit. But the f1.2 never had flawless bokeh itself.

Yeah, I think what people are commenting on is technique, not lens quality. If you set up your model at a distance that is not good for the background you're going to get poor results.
