Please have a look at this target.

In a recently-locked thread, some progress was being made about how to measure the color gradation ability of a Foveon versus the rest.

Toward that end, there was suggestion of shooting greenery, so I've made some greenery in the GIMP, a single, square "leaf":

please view original size, even tho' it's a small image . .

The HSV hue goes from 90 deg at left to 120 deg at right.

My question to all, for now, is "can anyone here see any banding or posterization in this image full-size on your screen (not expanded to fill your screen)?"

If not, it would appear that this target, or one like it, can be printed on my humble Canon PIXMA MG8120 thence to be shot by say my DP2M and my Panasonic GH1 (due regard being paid to equivalence per Lumo).

If such shots show no banding or posterization from either camera+conversion to sRGB, then maybe the whole subject of "distinguishing subtle tonal differences" goes away . . .
