if you mean for canon to add IS on 400 5.6, you'll be looking in the range of $3K, if not more! but it'll still be worth it if IQ stays the same! but that will not happen because it'll kill the sale of expensive 400 and 500 primes! so, lets say only canon knows what they are doing and what is good for their pockets, not us little guys

Why do you think Canon will charge that much more for adding IS to the 400 f/5.6?

why not? lots of people are willing to pay that much for IS version of a 400 f5.6 except you! canon is a business establishment that wants maximum profit, not a charity entity!

I would expect an increase in the neighborhood of $400-$500 (consistent with the bump from original to version II of the 100-400) when combined with other improvements.

yes, logically, but you forget that a 400 f5.6 IS will have wider implications, such as erosion of top big white primes! besides, the IS on a cheap EF (non-L) lens that you are referring to and a big white prime are quite different(technologically), i am sure!!!

After all there are Canon lenses with IS that cost less that $300 in total.
