500mm vs 600mm?

There are three reasons why I didn't do the same thing:

- Minimum focus distance.

- High cost to switch to a lens which is no bigger (optically). If I'd bought a 400 DO the 300 would have been sold as the overlap in use is 95% for me.

Despite all that I still gave it serious consideration, but in the end opted for a 500/4L II and keeping the 300. A very good deal on a 500 (before last year's price rises luckily) helped to make it possible.

The 300mm and 500mm is an excellent combo
