D7500 has only 20.9 MP vs. D7200 24MP?

Wondering why the D7500 was only equipped with a 20.9 MP sensor? Granted, for most people, especially those who do small prints (11x17 or less) or who just post online, 20.9 MP is plenty, but I'm just curious as to why they went with 20.9 MP?

Does it have something to do with the Expeed 5 processor and/or 4k video shooting? I would have expected them to keep the 24MP as the D7100 and D7200 carried that resolution.... unless I'm missing some technical limitation in the new sensors that require them to be lower resolution to achieve better performance maybe? Or was it a cost thing?

I was just looking as someone asked me about the difference between the two (D7200 and D7500), which I hadn't looked into until now.
