Apple 8+ phone vs Ricoh GR II at the theater
5

Went to Tombstone's historic Schieffelin Hall today to review a play for the paper. The stage had very adequate lighting. Took my Apple 8+ phone, thought that would be all I'd need. But no. Even using the RAW mode and editing in RAW with the Camera + app, the image detail just wasn't there, just wasn't good enough, even by my photo-journalistically  lax standards.

So I went home at intermission and brought back my little Ricoh GR II. As you'd expect, the APS-C sensor delivered a far better picture than the Apple. Unlike daylight and twilight, where the Apple images are very usable for small-size print and web, you had better use a larger-sensor camera for interior shots! And -- as you'd also expect, the Ricoh -- or ANY other 'real' camera -- is incredibly ergonomically better than the smartphone...

First, from the Apple... then from the Ricoh.
