Tripod bang for the buck

I'm looking for a heavier duty tripod to pair with a D850 and some longer telephotos. I've had a Benro traveler series for several  years and it is fine if you are careful, but while it can hold the weight it isn't the steadiest.

Reading recommendations from Steve Perry and Thom Hogan, I am looking for a "3" series model. The RRS TVC-34L will surely do the job but is quite pricey. (I need the long version since I"m 6'3". So I found a Gitzo GT3542L Mountaneer that goes just as tall but is 40% less money. EXCEPT.......they cheated on their size rating. It is only that tall with the center post extended.

So any recommendations or is the RRS a case of you get what you pay for?
