With the impending release of the A7RIII, the A7RII is a bargain now. If shopping used, I saw plenty mint condition ones being sold for $1500 with accessories around my area. I imagine the prices might even continue to go down once the A7RIII is released.

$1500 is a great deal. I'd bite at that price. Whereabouts?

Have not seen any around here that low yet. At least not in mint condition and without a higher shutter count. There are a couple locally for 1800-2100.

I have not seen that low yet in eBay. But agreed A7r II is a great bargain especially in the holiday season after mark III released and many II flooding into used market.

Personally unless Sony offers a trade-in program as they did for A9 (traded-in A7 II), and I am only willing to spend no more than $1200 to switch, I likely will hold on A7r II (bought at $2200 in early this year). A7r III offers many improvements, here and there but since I already owned A9, I don't miss much as IQ is basically the same. I use A7r II mainly in landscape, and I have 4 batteries (2 OEM+2 third-party), so even new battery is not such a big deal. I might just hold and wait for future A9r (but will not get right away anyway after its release). Do believe will have such model by 2nd half next year or in year 2019. By then I should use A7r II enough after eventually made another big move :-)

Going price seems to be closer to 2000 online.

Still a mega bargain if you're not squeamish about buying used (I'm not). I would definitely love the upgrade from my A7II but now is just not the time. I need glass more than a new body right now.

I think it's possible that the used price will go up. I don't know that it's probable, but I think it's possible.

The used price is often tied to the new price and the new price of the A7RII recently dropped. However, it was a sale so the price of a new A7RII is about to go back up. Therefore, potentially, the used price should go back up.

IMO, the only factor which might keep the used prices low is that SO many people purchased new and used A7RII cameras in the last few weeks that demand, at least for a while, has been satisfied and therefore, to meet the new demand, the used price will have to stay low.

I doubt any new A7RII will be sold for quite a while as anyone who was on the fence at the current sale price will definitely NOT buy at the normal price.

This is likely temporary - Sony $500 discount (which will expire soon), plus many people dumping their A7rii for upgrade. Same thing happened with A6300 pricing last year.

The difference between A7riii and A7rii should be less than $1000 cause image quality is still the same. You pay $1000 for the convenience of faster AF, basically...

I ordered a used one from LensAuthority yesterday for $1550. I'm expecting it to be pretty banged up but reported to work flawlessly. There was even one for I believe $1450 but it had a small hole in the side. Haha

I don't get this "feeding frenzy" about cheap a7Rii.

It is still a great camera. It hasn't suddenly become "chopped liver".

Yes, if you want to spend $3,200 for a new camera, you'd buy the a7Riii.

On the demand side, for $2,000, ($1,200 less,) you can buy an excellent a7Rii used on Fred Miranda.

On the supply side, I don't see everyone with an a7Rii suddenly needing an a7Riii, and dumping their camera at a loss of more than $1,200.

A7II is the bargain to be had in my eyes.

Over here in the UK, where we suffer with prices, I've picked up a brand new A7II (from Amazon), for £799 after cash back. Silly cheap.

It sounds like their inventory comes from LensRentals.com, so it sounds like they're cheaper deals but they probably have more wear on them. Kind of like the difference between buying a used car from a private owner versus buying from a car rental place. Look forward to your report on the body you received.

It's unlikely the A7RII price will actually go up - more likely, the "after rebate" price will become the official price. It's happened numerous times before with Sony products.

Basically, if Sony returns the A7RII price to the old price (only $400 below the RIII), no one is going to buy it. Might as well just disco it.

Yes you are right just bought a 2nd hand unit near mint for US$1670 in Australia.

There were a couple of quick impulse sales at 1700 after the r3 was announced, but the prices now seem to have stabilized at about 1950 to 2050.

The used price will be set against the new price. If Sony's new price for the r2 is 2400, 800 less that the r3, then they think they will sell them for that price.

I would then expect very nice r2 bodies to go for 2000-2050 and more used bodies to go for 1900-2000.

If you have one to sell, wait until after the first of the year when all the upgraders wil have sold theirs. If you want to buy, I would get in around the end of November or first week of December.

A very clean r2 at 2000 is really a steal.

I already bought mine(used but in mint condition) for US$1670, at this price is even better.

The idea of Sony to keep the old models as brand new in stores as a cheaper alternative is IMHO extremely clever:
  1. They have a much wider portfolio of selectable products
  2. It suggests that the previous model is still a good value proposition since it is available not only used
  3. They catch the less is more group (never understood that way of thinking)
  4. People with a tight budget can get into the system saving a few bucks and still get a brand new camera
  5. It helps to fill the production lines
The Sony guys have understood what customers (prosumers, PROs, amateurs and enthusiasts) want.

Compare to CaNikon this is a clever strategy and the lens selection grows every day.

For me currently the most innovative company and the A7RM2 is still one of the best cameras out there - maybe the best for stills and landscape and architecture.

I see no price increase and 1500 USD / EUR is a bargain - indeed! - Considering the grey import it is still a nice saving and with a low shutter count this is a no-brainer IMHO.

I will sell mine in January and get the A7RM3 since the A7RM3 is as well a no-brainer!

And I will get an A9R on top at some point in time when the prices have come down and/or the resolution surpasses 60+ MPixel - best would be something in the area of 70-90 MP - this will definitely make a nice difference.

Right now traveling is priority no. 1 for me - thus I sell the last pieces of my previous Canon gear

Actually, you can get a new a7rii for 2,109 € (when I last time had a look) On the gray market, e.g. here: www.eglobalcentral.eu (you may replace „.eu“ by your country‘s code and look if the offer is even cheaper). Other gray market shops habe offers at the same price level. This post should in no way be in ad for the memtioned company. Also: some warranty restriction may apply to gray market products depending on your country
