Folks the lens will likely be just fine... but for $1600 its gotta be more than "ok" to get my money. I don't subsidize medicore, that only encourages companies to continue giving you more mediocre. IMO, this lens will be inferior to a $125 lens in some very important ways.  There are cheaper and better direct competitors out there so Canon has to produce products that give the appropriate level of value/performance or they will not get my money.

You'll need to make your own decisions to reward mediocre or not, just don't complain they aren't innovating if you decide to buy inferior products.
