DIY tilt adapter with larger-format lenses?

Hey folks,

Would it be plausible to use something like an old manual medium-format lens to make a sort of rudimentary tilt adapter? Something to hold the lens onto the camera that also allows the lens to tilt?

I assume it can be done, provided that I use the right flange measurements (I was thinking of using a Mamiya RB lens, with a nice long 111mm flange, for my Canon 6D and its 44mm flange) for said DIY adapter, but would it work (i.e. would it give a tilt effect)? Would it matter where the adapter would pivot the lens (near the camera, near the lens, or in between the two)?

I would think the image circle of a medium format lens must be much bigger than my 6D's sensor size, so it seems like it should be able to tilt a decent amount and still provide an image to the sensor, although what do I know...

Any pointers? Has anybody done this successfully who can give a few tips? Ideas much appreciated...
