Sigma lens compatibility with SL2

Last night while poking around on eBay I came across an auction for a Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM lens. The auction was just minutes away from ending so I put in a lowball bid not thinking I'd win; surprisingly I won the auction. Purely an impulse buy. I have a few decent Canon EF-S lenses and have never even owned a third party lens. I figured the Sigma could be a decent way to reduce the weight and number of lenses I'll need to bring with me on my upcoming trip to Arizona in a few weeks.

Not having given myself any time whatsoever to research my purchase beforehand. I'm now wondering if the Sigma is even compatible with the DPAF system on my SL2. And whether or not this lens will yield acceptable results with the SL2's pixel dense sensor. I do realize the lens is in the all-in-one superzoom category and does not produce stellar quality no matter what it's mounted on.

I'm hoping for the best but curious if any SL2 (or T7i, 77D) owners are using SIgma lenses with satisfactory results. Or, have I impulsively acquired a new paperweight?
