I have given up trying to use my Ipad 3 for wired tethering .

I'm thinking of an android tablet but have no idea which one .

I don't need LR on it , i just want a color calibrated screen in the vicinity of a retina ipad screen .

I just need to see the pics from my D810 come through onto a larger screen .

Why a tablet? An Android tablet with a good screen (e.g. Samsung S3 Tab 9.7 or Lenovo Yoga Pro something) isn't  cheap either (around 500$ and more) and Android update support is a separate topic for a useful longer usage of the device.

So, if you don't need an Android tablet regardless I would at least thinking about getting a laptop with a good screen: sure more to spend compared to the Android tablet but you get more out of it.

Getting the images tethered (wired/wireless) opens the questions how to process further from here and with a normal laptop (can be a more light one if needed) a more complete workflow can be accomplished then just with a tablet as good review screen.
