Is this pic too "soft" for your taste?

Don't compare your actual camera/lens to the Fuji, it's ten years apart, if I compare the attached pic with recent ones I would too think the old ones are "soft" but if I had to take the same pic now I would know that the lens I used, the 80-200/2.8, would feel soft on a short distance and probably also suffer focus breathing, I would use a better angle for light and probably try to catch a better focus on the eye (this was shot on a boat which is not really the steadiest...) but, most of all, would not compare apple to figs, they are both sweet but totally different.

I'd tell you to borrow a better lens off a friend and try to play with the camera's setup to find out which film mode are you using and so on but primary would pay attention to proper focus and glass, the S5Pro was and still is a very capable camera, people still debates the 6+6MP if they make a count of 12 or 8ish or whatever, true, the AA filter is very strong but you can't have it all, no AA filter means moire (at least back then when these cameras/sensors were produced) but it is by no strange mean that it was one of the most preferred cameras by wedding photographers and it could sure reveal lot of detail so, again, won't want to be offensive but I'd check your technique before giving it up.
