I was finally able to get out to the bird hide today. Normally the hide near here is too far from any of the wildlife for decent pics but I was lucky enough to cat a few as they flew by. Not awesome shots but decent IMO especially since I had about 3 seconds to prepare for each as they both came out of nowhere.

your default settings are f/5.6 (good choice) and 1/2000s?
1/2000 is fine for a soaring bird, if you are panning with the flight. If you pan well, it is almost like a stationary bird.

I have to ask..........................what good is a hide that is to far away for decent pics?

Good question. Most of the birds gather on the opposite side of the lake which there is no access to. I couldn't tell you why the put it where they put it.

Two nice flight images

I really like number one. I spent about an hour in a bird hide yesterday and it had the same problem as you found. Then when I left in the car, there were birds everywhere!

That first shot is amazing, nice work.

Nice, enjoy your camera and keep posting
