Noise reduction à la Thom Hogan
1

After replying to another post concerning N1 noise, I remembered an article that Thom Hogan did awhile back:

http://www.sansmirror.com/articles/technique/reducing-noise-the-mean-way.html

In this article, he described a method of using options such as the 30/60 fps feature to shoot several identical or near-identical images and then stack them to smooth out the noise.

I've never tried this method, but wondered whether anyone else has, especially in hand-held shots that might clean up nicely compared to otherwise, or is this method so tedious that it doesn't make sense except in a still-life situation?
