Nikor AF-P 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 VR G.
Just bought the lens on line new for 59.98 euros inc. delivery. (eglobal)
The lens is small, light and retractable, has one of the fastest and quietest AF, almost instantaneous....in fact at first you think nothing has happened....you have to check again..sure enough the lens has focused......just discreetly......the end of the grr grr grr on video soundtrack....the jerkiness however, remains as Nikon's stock in trade!
Sharpness, my experience with standard kit lenses is that they are just OK and that's it, but not this one.....it's sharp even wide open, especially at the wider end where basically it's about as sharp as it gets, if you rule out exotic pricey primes...just a slight softness in the extreme corners, in reality it's nothing.......stopped down a stop and the lens is very sharp at all focal lengths across the frame.
The lens brings the true meaning of a no brainer!
Vignetting is about normal for this sort of lens, as is chromatic aberration, (easily removed), whereas VR is exceptional.
200 gms, 12 elements inc. 2 EDs instead of the previous models 11 elements, 7 rounded blades, 62.5 x 64.5mm, close focusing to 0.2 mts, 55mm filter thread, no supplied lens-hood. (Aliexpress is now supplying a bayonet version for this lens at around $3-4.
My copy of the lens was well centered but needed +7/8 AFMF.
This lens now shows that you do not have to sacrifice IQ to shoot one of the smallest stabilized, high speed focusing optics that is out there for "peanuts" !
......the lens came in a plain white box probably separated from a D3400 bundle.....I've been around photo-gear lenses since the early days, but this one trumps them all for IQ/AF/VR on a lens that costs less than a good shirt!
Bravo Nikon!...............4.5 stars!
BTW. no correction was used for distortion, so the view here is what the sensor sees, add correction and the corners are cropped.
