1300mm Mak on the Yi M1
3

I'm amazed at how good the optics are on this very inexpensive Maksutov-Cassegrain (mirror) lens. 1300mm and f/12, so strong light and on the tripod is a must, but the clarity is simply heads and shoulders above my old Perkin-Elmer solid cat (mirror) lens.

This is the mountain top many miles away from my back yard, captured with the Yi M1 at sunset this evening:

Quick snap of my back yard for reference (taken on another day):

I capture in DNG with the Yi, so while developing in ACR I did use a liberal dose of the Dehaze filter as you might imagine given the distance and late-day haze. Still, the results are, to me at least, pretty amazing for a $250 lens (that will serve as a nice spotting scope as well). Orion Apex 102 is the model, but it's a Chinese optic sold by several other brands also.

YMMV!  Just thought I'd report.  I posted a Moon shot with it in another thread also.
