JPEG and RAW

I shoot with my canon 7D ii.  The camera is set to shoot both RAW & JPEG simultaneously.  I noticed that the JPEG file is usually around 7mb and the RAW is over 20mb. I scroll thorough the JPEG version for the pictures I like and then take theRAW version of the same picture to Adobe Lightroom to fine tune it to my liking.  I notice that when I finish the RAW version that I converted to JPEG it is a much smaller file,  somewhere in the 2-3mb size.  Why is my edited version much smaller a file than the JPEG right out of the camera?  Also,  if that's the case will I lose a lot of detail in the puncture when/ if I decide to enlarge the picture for framing? Thanks in advance for you advice.
