DAM & Raw processing on Windows

Hi all,

when I still was a Canon shooter, i used to use an old version of LR. After taking a break from digital photography and returning with Fuji, I have only briefly tried RawTherapee.

As a hobbyist, I don't want to over-complicate my workflow, so I am now looking for a one-time purchase (non-subscription) software for both DAM and RAW processing (for Windows).

Having done a bit of research, the following seemed most mentioned (descending by price):

  • Capture One Pro 10.1, 280 EUR
  • ACDSee Photo Studio 2018 Ultimate, 170 EUR
  • ACDSee Photo Studio 2018 Professional, 115 EUR
(same as above w/o layer-based editing)
  • On1 Photo RAW 2018, 100 EUR

The following appear to be in development, but are not released yet:

  • Luminar, Win release in beta
  • Darktable, Win release in alpha

I know little to nothing about ACDSee Photo Studio. I am aware that Capture One is quite popular, especially on MacOS. As for On1, I wasn't terribly impressed by the GUI when I fiddled with an early release with the trial download.

I'd like to hear about your experience concerning:

  • Handling of Fuji RAW files: ease & quality of output
  • Support: frequency of patches, support for new cameras & lenses
(Current X-E2 user, planning to buy X-E3)
  • Overall capabilities of software
  • Stability and performance

Thanks for sharing!
