Re: Best general lens for 80D?

It's tricky as there isn't one perfect lens. You presumably want sharp, a decent range of focal lengths and not to be dreadful in low light.

Candidates:

15-85mm - covers a good range, offers decent performance, especially offers a 24mm equivalent wide end.

17-55mm f2.8 - constant f2.8 so better in low light, a friend gets some excellent images with his, but limited focal length range and not light.

24-105 L plus 10-18mm - I'd get this (indeed it was basically what I used before going FF, except with the 10-22 as the 10-18 wasn't around) as the 24-105 is great on a crop sensor and the 10-18 is a fine lens and small/cheap (plus unusually for an ultra-wide it has stabilisation, which is handy indoors). To keep the cost down consider the mk 1 24-105. It might be worth getting the 24mm STM as well.
