The advantage of more AF points?

I have been looking at the T7i and was super excited about the 45AF points (my current camera has 7) until I noticed the SL2. Then it got me thinking. I'm a newbie and not really sure of the advantage of that many AF points or if it's even necessary for me.

Is the only situation more AF is better is in sports/action?

About 90% of my stuff is still life in a studio like setting. Sometimes I use AF when I can't get something I like manually myself, but with infinite time to compose a shot with non-living subjects I don't need to worry about speed (I heard T7i AF was faster too).

So for my situation, would the extra $200ish for 45 point AF points be a waste?

It would be just enough savings to be able to afford a better lens I thought I couldn't touch for years.
