Does auto sensor dust removal complete its mission?

Okay, let me explain the question.  I have a 70D and a 6D.  When I turn on either camera, a message on the rear LCD indicates "Sensor cleaning."  Sometimes I get into a hurry when turning on my camera and I either immediately press the back button to focus for my first picture or I might go straight to the camera's menu.  When I do that, the "Sensor cleaning" message goes away.  My question is this: when I do this, do I interrupt the sensor cleaning, or does it finish while I'm making the camera perform other duties?  It's not a big deal.  I'm just curious.
