Should you get paid for something you invented?

I have a question. I shoot mainly fitness photography for certain and specific types of dancing. What If I actually invented, and I'm the first one to come up with a certain idea, on HOW to photograph the events that I do?

Because by now lots of people have seen what my company is doing they are starting to asked me if I don't mind if they do the same thing, or the same way, and some people already started "copying" me the way I put together my events.

My wife and I have worked really really hard at this and Is there a way we can make this a copyright thing or something and should we be getting paid for it from the people that want to organize it the same way to make a profit? Are there any specific types of photography lawyers out there that deal with situations like this? Who do I need to talk to?

Thank you.
