ASP 3 is effective and can batch operations very fast.
The learning curve isn't too bad.  Cost is reasonable.
The help is quite OK.  There's a free trial too.
Updates for new cameras are reasonably prompt.

There's always Gimp for that zillion layer masterpiece
BOTH run on WinMac and Linux (Fedora in my case)
