BUT ... I think he should try it first with his 18-55 on the 50 setting to be sure that is the FL he wants before committing money to another lens.

AND ... he may find he wants an even longer lens for "head" shots, and thus he could consider the 85mm.

But I certainly agree with you that the 55-200 is useful for extending his "tele" zoom range.
