Willy Wag Tail antics taken with Pro Capture ( lots of pics)
24

The Willy is a member of the fantail group of small insectivorous birds and are perpetual motion machines on constant alert for insects.

They are real characters with no fear and can very aggressive/territorial towards other birds/animals when defending their young. I actually got some images of one attacking a water dragon because it was getting too close to the nest.

This pair of Willy Wag Tails were chasing insects along a paddock fence before returning to the nest to feed young nearby. So I thought this was a good opportunity to capture the action with the Pro Capture feature.

Got lots of good images taking off from the fence posts/wire but nothing decent when front on landing as it is difficult to predict where they would land. Lots of pics of bare posts and wires but it was good fun.

Take off from fence post

Take off from wire

Landing on post

Below is a sequence of chasing an insect

Target spotted

About to launch

Up and away

Oops it went that way

Hard left turn

Time to pull out as prey missed

Another attempt

Insect spotted

About to launch

Dive takeoff, i only captured part of the bird in the next image in the sequence so not shown

And a final image I think the pick of day. Best viewed original size.

Hope you enjoy.
