Buy an i1 Display Pro or borrow from work...
I have several Dell UltraSharp PremierColor Monitors (u2713, u3014, up3017). These monitors allow for hardware calibration using the x-Rite i1 Display Pro Colorimeter. I have one of these colorimeters at work that I can borrow on occasion to re-calibrate my systems. The software used for the process is a free download from Dell, so I don't have any license issues.
That said, the i1 is not in my specific area, so I could take a few days or perhaps a week to arrange to borrow it and I can't keep it at home for many days.
I have a chance to pick one up used (only used once) in excellent condition for $150. The expense, while significant, will not put a heavy strain on my finances.
So my question is, "Would you buy the used i1 Display Pro Colorimeter or just arrange to borrow one on occasion from work?"
Is it something that's essential or simply convenient to have at your finger tips? I do not have a printer at home, so I print either at work on a system that is regularly calibrated or much more often at Costco using the icc profile's from dryCreek.com?
I tend to print fairly infrequently, but when I do, it is in big bursts.
Thanks for any advice.
There is simply too much beauty in the world to photograph it all, but I'm trying.
