Sony A6300 autofocus. Several questions

As I'm digging into Sony A6300 autofocus features for shooting still image, I have several questions that I need your help with.

1. Focus areas: wide vs. zone: "wide" is supposed to use all the sensors and cover the whole frame, what's the benefit of selecting "zone"? Note: I research this and two online experts said two opposite things:

- Michael the Maven said he usually chooses "zone" as opposed to "wide" as "wide" works the camera too hard.https://youtu.be/c3aMkSeMXh8

- Gary Fong said he skipped "zone" as it's "not that helpful".https://youtu.be/TjaVyAzwRyg https://youtu.be/L88uEmUp4t8

2. Focus point vs. Face detection: When I set focus area to "Center" and have a person to the side of the frame who activates Face detection, where would the camera focus on? When taking portrait, I'd prefer to leave focus area to "wide" and let the camera do the face detection focus. In practicality however, I found the face detection struggles when the person is not big in the frame e.g. taking whole body vs. haft body portrait. In this situation, I'd use the focus point to solve the problem. But when I do center focus lock, recompose, face detection kicks in and make me confused. Of course, I could use flexible point to compose and focus but it'd take too much time and slow down the process. Gary Fong seems to be confused about this himself as he was saying one way but the camera behaves the other way.

3. AF-S vs. AF-A vs. AF-C: Gary Fong suggests to use AF-A as it's a modern focus feature while Michael the Maven skips it.

I've also tried to consult Sony Help Manual but it's not that helpful as it says something like "Wide" is wide and "Zone" is zone but not explaining pros and cons of each. Or when 2 features may conflict each other (like focus point vs. face detection), which one is prioritized. Or AF-A vs others.
