help with 70-200 2.8L ii

Hey all. So I picked up a brand new copy of a 70-200 2.8L ii to go with my 7d mk ii finally. I've been waiting to buy this lens for awhile. I'm having some issues though. The lens is tack sharp at 70mm, but it seems soft at 200mm at longer distances.

The below images are both 100% crops. Both shot at f/2.8, ISO 100, 1/1250 shutter on a tripod with a remote. As you can see, the 70mm (first photo) is tack sharp on the bucket writing. The 200mm photo seems soft. I've shot in both live view and through the viewfinder, and seem to get the same issue with both. Is this normal? I'm trying to figure out if it's something I can fix via autofocus microadjustment, or if I have a bad copy.

Canon EOS 7D
