Replacing optical drive with SSD

I have a Lenovo Ideacentre all-in-one which I use for general purpose computing together with Lightroom/Photoshop.

It has a single 2TB 5400 rpm 3.5" drive which seems to be the weakest link in the performance chain.

At some point I will replace the whole thing but I'm considering swapping the optical drive for SSD to extend its useful life.

I am hoping for much faster boot times and much faster loading of applications - maybe marginal application improvements  but that isn't the primary goal.

Does anyone have any experience of doing this? Is it worth it? Anything I should consider?
