The S2/3/5 Pro bodies were terrific at low ISO and produce terrific images if you're not a pixel peeper. Plus there is a huge array of pro grade Nikon lenses available at quite reasonable prices.

There are battery issues with all of them. Were I buying one, it would be the S5 and I'd pick up the grip and several extra AA cell cartridges (they break). I'd use Eneloop 2100 AA cells as the Eneloop Pro cells don't seem to actually have any more capacity.

None of these bodies can be focus calibrated so expect all your images to be out of focus unless you use small apertures. These are not bodies for f/1.2 lenses unless you use manual focus. I had no problems with the Nikon 24-85 f/2.8-4 at f/8 or the 200 f/2.8 at f/11. My pair of S2s and S3 were more accurate than my S5 and could be shot 1-2 stops wider than the S5.

One tip, the circuit boards for the memory card socket had a tendency to break so try to use a single large card and transfer your photos with the USB cable. I used a 32GB card toward the end.

Lastly, while I recommended the S5, the S3 delivers almost identical IQ and is substantially cheaper. The S5 is superior in most other ways. The S3, as a cheaper entry into the system, might be the way to test it out. I preferred the handling and simpler setup of the S3.
