I seem to be the first to respond that I generally prefer not using hoods, they do have their place and use, but I often shoot towards the sun, and it's often in the frame, a situation that a hood is more or less useless in, I will typically test a lenses ability to reject  flare, CA, and ghosting, some flare I like in some situations, so knowing how it behaves gives me more options.

I don't have any AF lenses, so if I want a picture, I have to do more than squeeze a button.
