Why the focus on video features on DSLR?

Don't get me wrong, I am well aware of the fact that people like to use their camera for video and that it's a great addition to any DSLR. With some brands (i.e. Canon apparently excelling in this field)

But reading a lot of articles, reviews, comments on various sites it somehow (or at least to me) comes across as a rather inflated feature.
Do DSLR buyers really shoot video that much?
Could it be the impact of Vlogging?
Or maybe it's just me who is totally unaware of what's happening outside my narrow focus on stills? (To me video seemed to be a niche market for DSLR's)

Knew very little about photography when I decided to buy the awesome Nikon D70; learned quickly that this expensive camera didn't make me a good photographer.
