This is sort of a basic question. I haven't tried mounting an external flash on my DP2x. The manual describes the Sigma EF-140 as having TTL which makes it work together with the camera to get the exposure right. Are there other flashes that work that way with the camera too?

The flash would need SA-TTL, Sigma compatible TTL metering.

Unless you are able to find another brand of flash that is compatible with Sigma TTL metering, I suspect that Sigma OEM flashes are it.

I've heard Cactus with the V6 II can convert Sigma SA-TTL to other systems so worth having a look here: https://www.cactus-image.com/special/X-TTL/

The Sigma hotshoe pinout on top of the camera is the same as Canon, so any Canon-compatible extension cords will work to move the flash off-camera.

Radio-control flash triggers (should) work, but everything will be full manual.

I've used the Yongnuo RF-603C II's fine with the Sigma cameras for manual flash triggering, typically you would pair with the YN-560 III or IV or YN-560-TX. As danski0224 says, you would get the Canon model to be pin compatible.
