I've had the S5 Pro for around two years. IMO, the reason to own one is for its rich colors, highlight dynamic range plus it is a pro build Nikon body with access to all Nikkors, Ai and forward. The skin tones are beautiful. Professional wedding photographers used the S5 for many years for good reasons.

Yes, it is a low resolution camera by current standards, the super CCD low light capabilities are limited to ISO 1600 in use and it is no machine gun. However, the color output and highlight dynamic range that made this camera are present today.

If you like toys that are not expensive & have lenses, why not.

First off, there is no such thing as "highlight dynamic range." Second, the dynamic range has been matched and surpassed by the current Sony sensors in Sony, Nikon, Pentax cameras. Even Fuji's latest range with DR400 setting does better with less noise and tonality breakdown.

Agree that modern sensors substantially outperform the S5's SuperCCD in the areas of shadow recovery, resolution & high ISO. In the areas color reproduction, highlight retention and their their film like soft clipping, not so much.

Perhaps the term " highlight dynamic range" may be in error but have certainly come across it in several articles/reviews as per the below.

"Highlight Dynamic Range" Nikon D600 vs Fuji S5 Pro:

Nikon D800E vs Canon 5D vs Fuji S5 Pro Dynamic Range (highlight recovery):

I am quite familiar with the software manipulated DR settings of the Fuji XE-1 and XE-2 which also owned. Personal preference with XE cameras is exposing for highlights @ DR100 & addressing shadow recovery in LR.
