Off centered focus points

Does anyone have off centered focus points that may be causing mis-focusing? Both my D600 and D7200 when set to a single focus point are obviously off centered. I became suspicious and then confirmed by hovering the focus points over a flat wall and then slowly creeped in on a black mark. The cameras jump into focus before the square is even touching the black mark. Predominately my true focus points are down and to the right (diagonally) from the highlighted square. When I reevaluated where the focus point was really situated, I had better focused images. I've read that this is not uncommon among most brands on the consumer series bodies.
