Being prepared for what you want means quite a bit. I'm sure the RX10M3 did well for your purpose. The A99 might have given more crop abilities   I used my D7200 and 70-200 f4 for a running event Saturday and got quite lot of good pictures. Compromise was when runners were jumping in front of me and I only got a picture of their nose  (they'd think I could do wide iPhone pictures). 200mm was enough but 70mm was often short. To me a second camera would be needed. Decided not to bring the 18-35 (change lens)  and stick with 70-200. A RX10M? would have done just as nicely in many situations

I still like everything setting can (mostly) be done by a front or back wheel without taking my eye away from the camera while taking pictures. Even if it's a pound or two heavier

A pound or two is just a few weeks workout. The 24-70 and 200-600 was still out of my reach though except for a few RX100 snaps
