Re: MuzzaAus - M6 + 100-400L II lens... (PICS)

Marco,
I don't think your weird bokeh is from a filter. I would occasionally see similar results on the original 100-400mm and I never put a filter on that lens. The effect was actually a function of the IS system and certain shutter speeds. Unless you are at low shutter speeds, try turning off the IS.
Thanks! I really appreciate your observations here on this matter. The problems with the streaking were always at the same approximate angle so perhaps you are correct. But the effect never happened with the 6D DSLR, only when the lens was on the EOS M6. Canon seemed puzzled by it but were unable to reproduce the effect.
.
A fairly large number of people have noticed the same (or similar) effect with this lens using cheap filters and it was said that the 100-400L (both Mk1 and Mk2) were very sensitive to poor quality filters. Since less people use filters these days, it's less likely to show up at all. It dawned on me that I cancelled a trip to the beach in order to take some test pictures with this lens on the EOS-M6... and should have swapped filters back over to a higher end filter but hadn't.
.
I'll take your advice and will attempt to use this lens with similar settings and no IS. The IS is AMAZING on this lens so it will be a darned shame to need to turn it off for any reason. It's DEFINITELY related to the lens and not the camera... and yet it NEVER occurs with the EOS 6D, only the M6 camera.
.
Some links to the SAME problem that others have encountered.
