Hi Marco,
I really enjoyed your field review of the Eos M6. I have changed to the Canon 80D + EF 100-400mm L IS II. I couldn't use the Eos M3 for BIF( much too slow) which I wanted to try. I am very happy with this combo( 80D + 100-400mmL IS II) for nature and BIF work but I really miss the size of the M and M3.I still use the M3 + 11-22mm for landscapes. I have been waiting for an M camera with decent tracking AF that would be a useable backup to my 80D. It sounds like the M6 is worth considering. Thanks for your thorough and excellent review.
Cheers
Murray
PS Long time since I have posted on the Eos M forum. These are for your viewing .I realize that this is an Eos m forum.
I'm a little baffled as to why this thread has come alive again. Someone posted a comment I guess and that bumped it back to the front of the threads.

The EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM II that you are using works VERY well on the M6 although I did experience some artifacts that were possibly the result of a cheap filter I was using to keep salt air off my lens. It only affected the bokeh and I haven't had a repeat incident. Aside from this, I've had a lot of success with that lens and can easily use the 1.4x III and 2x III Extenders with it on the M6. I've even mounted them together with the lens as a triple-stack + lens adapter on the M6 and again, the results were good. I believe the new EOS 6D II FF DSLR offers a better compatibility combo though when using this lens with the 1.4x III extender... something that the original 6D couldn't do.

The Live Preview and DPAF sensor on the EOS M6 Mirrorless camera makes it possible to achieve accurate AF and an increase in magnification with this lens. Your EOS 80D might give you a few advantages though - being a DSLR. See examples with this lens on the M and M6 below:

M6 Test Shot setup. You can still shoot handheld but the combo was heavy, yet well balanced.
M6 artifacts - An example of the weird streaky bokeh that I mentioned which showed up only one explanation: a cheap filter. I can't explain it an neither could anyone else.. including Canon. It showed up on all my shots from the first day. The shots taken ABOVE this image, were taken with that same filter removed. The odd streaking did not return. I normally use an expensive Hoya Pro1D nano-coated filter on this lens at all times.
