Sony's New FE 85mm F1.8 Passsed Christmas Tree Light Test! :)
5

So today, I'm super excited. I received my new copy of the Sony 85mm F1.8 FE lens at $600 through Adarama. After testing the lens thoroughly, I'm convinced it will serve me better than the original Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm F1.8 lens that I used previously but ended up selling because I couldn't tolerate the night bokeh that the lens produced which could be often described as onion ring bokeh or condom ring bokeh... The Sony 85mm does not suffer from this and it looks like Sony has addressed this issue in their 85mm F1.8 lens. Yipee! So I am extremely excited and want to thank Sony for getting it perfectly right on this lens! It looks like I'm going to be rating it highly. Most modern aspheric lenses cannot pass my Christmas Tree Light bokeh test and the 85mm passed to my satisfaction.

I will admit this lens is a little softer than the 55mm but who cares. Sharpness isn't everything and this lens is plenty sharp wide open, enough for professional use!

Also, I don't mind cat's eye bokeh - it's reminiscent of older vintage lenses and adds character to my compositions. Five Stars for You, Sony!!! Love shooting this on the Sony A7R!!!
