More than in other subjects it is a matter of the photographer and not the camera. There are so many tricks to get a fresh look... lighting is of course very important, but also the specific food preparation for the shooting. I recommend to get a book on the specific topic.

Regarding lenses, the 60 would be fine. For some environmental shots (parts of the kitchen, e.g.) you may get a 23 or 35.
