OK - all of you loyal and avid SX50HS users - questions
1

Hey all...

This (these) question(s) are aimed at those of you intimately familiar with the SX50HS.

I've had this camera ever since it came out - just absolutely love the IQ it is capable of capturing.  It goes without saying that IMO, this is one of the finest (if not the finest) small sensored superzoom camera I've used.  Other than the very low resolution EVF, this is a jewel of a camera model and I've never had the motivation to want to upgrade to the SX60HS.

I've never really had the desire or oppotrunity to use the SX50HS in situations requiring flash (whether internal or external) - meaning, I rarely (if any) shot indoors.  Most of my shooting with this camera on and off through the years have been confined to outdoor bright light situations.

But now I'm faced with a dilemma.  I have been unable to get my camera to shoot flash - whether internal or external.  I've looked at everything in the menu.  The Flash control option in the menu is greyed out.  When I push the flash button on top of the camera, I would assume the flash would pop up - but it doesn't.  I have to forcibly lift the flash out of its down position.

I now looked at every available option on this camera to shoot flash - attaching a variety of Canon flash units - all to no avail.  Nothing works flash-wise.  Before I send this camera in for repair (which I doubt they will repair - I'm surmising they'll just send me a reburbished model if they have one), I need to know if I'm overlooking any simple scenarios here.

Here's what I've tried:

1.  Pushing the flash button on the left hand top of the camera does nothing - the internal flash will not pop up and I have to pull it up manually.

2.  In the menu system, the flash control options line is greyed out - not accessible.

3.  So then I tried to access the flash power settings in the Functions set button menu.  It shows up, but it cannot be adjusted - whether to minus or plus levels.

So unless I'm desperately overlooking something (which I'm hoping is the case), it appears that the camera has been faulty flash-wise since the day I purchased it years back (again, I never had the occasion to use the flash functions) and will require a send in to Canon.

Any suggestions, etc?

Thanks in advance.
