What am I doing wrong? X100T Slow AF in dim light

I just cannot seem to make it happen.  Review after review notes unreliable AF in dim light yet I am sitting in a dark room with only really low light from a dim bulb through the open door of the room next door (it very very dark basically) and I'm still getting a quick focus lock even on low contrast subjects / objects and when i check the shot, the focus is on target and reliable.  Even with the AF iluminator off.

Did I just get lucky?  Or am I doing something wrong....?
