Quality of Displayed Image from Canon Powershot SX60 HS

Trying to keep it short,... I was amazed at the very high quality of images viewed from this camera using an HDMi cable direct connected to an HD large screen TV. VERY impressive. Family viewed over 1000 images from an 8 week grandkid's trip among the national parks, etc. Copied the entire SD card to my PC, began to view the images at home and found NO WHERE NEAR THE EYE CATCHING QUALITY of the images seen as described above. HUGE difference. What is going on here and what are the main drivers? Circumstances include:
- high qual astounding me was HDMi direct -- camera to HD TV
- Home PC has no HDMi output nor does the HP or Acer 22" display have those inputs. Only way to connect to display is via VGA cables.
- Images on the PC displays (HP or Acer fairly large screens) are no better off the Canon than they are from my pocket zoom Lumix.
- All images under discussion are jpeg. Supposedly the Canon allows one to operate with raw images but the granddaughter used strictly the default auto settings for this entire set of images. All are jpeg.
Does the camera somehow link raw images to the TV screen rather than the apparent stored jpeg images ?
Are the primary differences I see in quality because of VGA PC to screen connections ?
If so How in hell is one supposed to view higher quality stills at home on a PC ?
