Help getting started in macro photography

Hi all. I've been pretty inspired by looking at some amazing nature/wildlife macro photos lately. I'm pretty interested in trying my hand at some macro. What i usually shoot is telephoto wildlife/birds and general landscape. I'm not too sure exactly what I need to get into macro. Besides a good macro lens I don't know what I need beyond that.

I have a canon 80D. To start I'm looking at either getting the old Canon 100mm 2.8 or the new L 100mm 2.8 IS.

My biggest question is, do i need some sort of flash/strobe or can great nature macro be achieved with natural light?

thanks
