How sharp a lens 'should' be will be different for different people and uses.

I was very pleased with the performance of the 10-18 on a recent trip to central Australia, particularly as my Rokinon 12mm broke.

A zoom lens going to just 10mm is challenging to engineer (hence the price, which is a little cheaper than the Fuji/Olympus/Panasonic versions) and there will be some compromises - the level of sharpness seems acceptable to me in that context. The lens also gives nice colour and can make decent sunstars, which is a plus as well.

I generally prefer primes, but the 10-18 seems a very credible performer to me.

Of course it is, in the right hands. But many will blame their deficiencies as photographers on the gear.
