Not Talking Mount Types ...

I have both the M5 and the SL2. Because I have been shooting through Canon optical finders for 29 years, I am far more accustomed to an OVF. I have virtually put the M5 away since I got the SL2. The M5 is ok but I just see better with the OVF. I compared sizes today and there is a difference and the lenses are quite different. I have had the M5 since it came out and have made a lot of pictures with it. It is over $300 more expensive than the SL2. Same picture quality. I am on my third EVF, two canon and one Sony. Because I am old and sot in my ways OVF ergonomics are far better for me. The M5 is good indoors at night as it is less obtrusive in crowded places. Nothing else said the SL2 is a helluva good buy for its capability. I do my own large printing and I think the SL2, and the M5 produce stunning pictures. Everything is better today than when I did sports with an EOS 650 film camera in 1989.

on how good the live view is with adapted lenses on either camera. I know STM lenses are basically like native lenses on the M. Have you used any USM lenses adapted on the M or in live view with the SL2?

STM is not native to anything. There are 3 types of lenses. EF, EF-S, EF-M.

M series takes EF-M lenses natively whether STM or not. With an adapter it also takes those lenses that the SL-2 takes.

SL2 takes EF (whether USM or not) or EF-S (whether USM or not, & whether STM or not.) It doesn't need an adapter with EF or EF-S lenses.

I was not talking about mounts. I was talking about AF drive motor types. There are STM, USM and nano USM. There is one other type that hasn't been used in any lenses for many years and is very noisy and slow, but forget the nomenclature.

I believe all EFM lenses use STM motors. An EF or EFS lens with STM on the SL2, when using them in live view, should perform similar to an M camera with an EFM lens.

What I was asking about is how to the other motor types, besides STM, preform AF wise on the SL2 in live view.  i.e. how does DPAF do with USM and nano USM lenses.
