Guy - your photo of your friends seems to show some numbers on the mode dial round from the PASM settings I am familiar with - what do they do?
Hi Simon,
Guy has a custom overlay he printed and attached to the dial. The numbers represent ISO values and the settings correspond to MySets programmed onto the mode dial underneath. He has some MySet values set up for various shooting conditions that demand ISO and other considerations. It's a rather clever implementation.
Yes, I bought a Brother 24mm tape printer and the 18mm wide it manages to print on the plastic label tapes is just enough to cut a (rough) circle to overlay the dial of the E-P5. The printer cost me Oz$100 and I mainly use it for making labels to stick on the camera club print display stands that I have now decided to stop making.
Back some time Martin Ocando had access to a 32mm wide tape printer, and his efforts inspired me to get the 24mm one (much cheaper) and make a few labels.
The numbers on my dials are the max limits for auto ISO plus some other fiddles with aperture and metering etc. Made to suit the dumb tourist (me) as he wanders in and out of dim and bright places when on holidays.
If going into dim and I hear the shutter speed too slow then I twist to the next dial spot until it sounds healthy.
If I wander outside the auto ISO takes care of my stupidity and drops back to 200 until I realise I still have f/2.8 so then twist the dial back to the usual outdoor general ISO 200 plus f/5.6 MySet. All are A mode MySets.
So the 4 MySets plus the usual dial twiddles of aperture (sometimes) and exposure compensation (not often) do everything that I need, well almost, I do occasionally use the regular PASM spots. My SCP access is moderately rare now, and menu diving almost never happens on a holiday. I successfully made the E-P5 easier to use than a point 'n' shoot. Getting photos is my aim, not wasting time fiddling with settings.
The E-P5 allows the programmer to assign a MySet to the PASM locations on the mode dial. The Pen F has C1, C2, C3, C4 explicitly on the mode dial. Some of the other functions have been moved to the front creative control dial.
Guy:Please correct me if I got anything wrong!
You get full marks, I'm not sure why I even bother to turn up here.
As my wife now has a Brother Scan and Cut machine I can now employ that to cut the circles perfectly, so next labels will be neater and probably only labelled My1/My2/My3/My4 as I do often dive in and change at least the My4 to something special for the day, and sometimes also My3.
Regards..... Guy
