Someone please explain why "algorithm" is such a hard word to spell in English.

Probably because of its resemblance to "rhythm", which is even worse to spell. The word is a corrupted version of the name of the ninth century Persian mathematician, al-Khwarizmī.

The hardest word of all seems to be "fluorescent".

The word "queue" is not so obvious how to spell either, not to talk about "obvious". English sux

Queue is easy - just add "ue"s to taste!

Queue is a French word meaning a tail, ribbon on a document with seals on the end, or pigtail.

I believe the first queues (in the modern sense of standing in line) were at the ticket box of the Paris Opera.
