What a mess. The literature is absolutely bonkers.

For example, the Wikipedia article defines EV in terms of camera settings (exposure time and f stop), but then uses it to express subject luminence. The two definitions give different algebraic signs (cf. the first equation and Table 1).  Then we have other references such as the Fred Parker table that also includes the ISO setting, thereby perpetuating the so-called exposure triangle.

All of this may be fine until you try to explain to someone that neglecting electronic noise and detector efficiency, image noise is determined by exposure. Or someone tries to initiate a technical discussion and is forced to argue about definitions instead.  I wish I could fix the mess, but I think we're stuck with it.
